Customs Advisory

Importation involves a series of customs and regulatory procedures. An import consultancy can provide specialized advice to assist with tariff classification, preparation of documents, tax calculation and monitoring of customs processes.

The customs and regulatory procedures involved in importing may vary according to the country of origin and the type of product to be imported. In Brazil, some of the main procedures are:

  1. Registration on the Radar: The importer must register with the Federal Revenue Service's Registration and Tracking of the Performance of Customs Intervenors (Radar). This registration is necessary for the company to carry out import operations.

  2. Tariff classification: The importer must determine the tariff classification of the product in accordance with the Mercosur Common Nomenclature (NCM). This classification is used to define the tax rate to be paid.

  3. Import licensing: Some products may require prior licensing before importing. The importer must check whether the product in question is subject to any type of licensing and obtain the necessary authorization from the competent bodies.

  4. Documentation: The importer must prepare and present the necessary documents for import, such as the commercial invoice, bill of lading, import declaration, among others. These documents are essential for customs clearance and proof of the operation.

  5. Payment of taxes: The importer is responsible for paying import taxes, such as the Import Tax (II), the Tax on Industrialized Products (IPI), the Social Integration Program (PIS) and the Contribution for Social Security Financing (COFINS). The calculation and payment of these taxes must be done in accordance with the established rates and rules.

  6. Customs clearance: The customs clearance process involves the analysis and checking of documents and goods by the Federal Revenue Service. This step includes checking the compliance of the information, paying the taxes due and releasing the merchandise for collection or delivery.

These are just some of the customs and regulatory procedures involved in importing into Brazil. It is important to highlight that each import operation may have specific characteristics, and it is recommended to have the support of a specialized consultancy or a customs broker to ensure compliance with all legal obligations and facilitate the process.
